Sneak preview...

'Frontiers' is a new musical, which certainly breaks frontiers in its amount of plot references: for starters it's apparently based loosely on a 'The Lion, the Witch and The Wardrobe' theme (although even the cast seemed to deny all knowledge of that one!).

The 'Starship Christopher' is travelling into a foreboding 'dead zone' with a mysterious passenger on board - well actually my first thought on watching this was 'Star Trek!' and indeed the setting, intentionally or otherwise, was extremely similar to the bridge of a Federation Starship; Captain James T. Quinn v James T. Kirk; Starfleet; Federation... I could go on (shameful past life as trekkie emerges) but you get the point. However, the mysterious passenger is obviously an allegory to Christ: still following me?

Despite all that the story seems to be quite old-fashioned good fun, and has the makings of being entertaining to watch even if you aren't concerned with all the more complicated fiddly Jesus-resurrection-triumph over death stuff. Obviously, as I only saw a rehearsal I can't really comment on the quality of a finished article as it's like looking at a prototype gearknob and being asked to imagine a turbocharged sports car, but the enthusiasm of the cast should win audiences over (if they have learnt their words by then!).

So, in short - Heroes, Heroines, Spaceships, Attacks, Rebirth, Sundered Love, Enthusiastic Death Scenes, An Evil Queen Who Kills People By Snogging Them... how can you go wrong?!
