Jesus!

Not that I'd want to preach at you, but I recommend avoiding this production if either Julie Andrews or bible bashing get up your nose. If, on the other hand, a religiously fervent musical is your idea of cultural nirvana, CCMS offer a ticket to paradise at the bargain price of £3.

Yours Personally revolves around the uncompromising message that "without God everything is meaningless."

Sadly, I can't report wandering from the church hall full of beatific smiles and the love of Jesus, but it wasn't a wasted evening. Though the plot might irritate atheists, the passion discernible in the actors considerably redeemed matters. Real spit and real tears are all too rare on the stage, but apathy was nowhere to be seen here. Matthew Cripps absolutely glowed in the rapture scene, while Katy Bingham added spice as the scarlet harlot turned vestal virgin. However, the spiritual conviction of the cast sometimes spilled into histrionics.

'Yours Personally' presents itself as an aural rather than a visual feast; Joanna Corbett stole the show with her truly angelic voice...she even had the blonde curls to match. The musical score was varied, occasionally uplifting, but mostly hovering between Gospel choir hip-swinging and Eurovision song contest cringing. Still, its unarguably bright and bubbly.

The problem with Yours Personally 'is that its sparkly songs just don't combat the existential trauma that it evokes. But a weak smile might not be totally out of the question for all you unbelievers out there - the the twenty minute beverage'n' fag break should provide ample opportunity to use your Junction-jargon and say "More Tea Vicar?" The man himself presides over the steaming pots of Earl Grey and Assam.....strategic caffeine before your second dose of spiritual intensity.
